Passionate About Contribution

Across a variety of contexts, I effectively:

  • Engage in systems and ecosystems orientation and sense-making to understand current dispositions, to identify unaddressed internal and external needs and define problems of practice, the contexts in which those needs exist, and the interacting and interdependent conditions that hold those problems in place;

  • Include and draw on heterogeneity of perspectives and ideas throughout the problem-definition and co-creative solution-finding processes to create more virtuous cycles through reinforcement of positive interactions between system components; bringing forward multiple frameworks, methods, processes, and tools matched to the participating stakeholders, their contexts and cultures, and the problems to be solved;

  • Lead the design and implementation of organizational and systems-level strategic planning that strengthens adaptability, resiliency, and anti-fragility by identifying enabling and barrier constraints in clear, complicated, complex, and chaotic contexts to design of sustainable programs, policies, and operational implementation strategies;

  • Empower organizations and stakeholders to learn and adapt through the use of systematic improvement and innovation methods and tools—including improvement science and design thinking—to amplify those interactions leading to more of what we want; to spread and scale through transformation partnership frameworks such as collective impact and networked improvement communities;

  • Design, implement, and use multiple forms of evidence to help understand what’s working, for whom, and within what contexts; understanding and aligning analytical (data, research, and evaluation) and synthesis methods to questions and contexts to help interpretation and make inferences to take action;

  • Continually develop individuals and teams through training, technical assistance, and capacity building as a consultant, member of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s national faculty for networked improvement science, and as an adjunct professor in a doctoral program in organizational change and leadership.

As a “deep generalist,” I feed my insatiable curiosity by exploring broadly to make connections across contexts, problems, and disciplines. I have been able to apply this inter- and trans-disciplinary expertise to address questions of systems change and implementation; quantitative and qualitative monitoring, research and evaluation, and analytics; finance (revenues), funding (allocation), and resource allocation and use; policy analysis and design; human capital; accountability; and governance. With an appreciation for complex systems orientations, I simultaneously see the whole picture and the individual systems and their components, fully attentive to their connections, interactions, and interdependencies that contribute to the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. I quickly and proficiently go deep on any issue and help others to access, understand, and use new, connected information within their context to learn, co-create new knowledge, and use that knowledge to create ambitiously better outcomes.
